As part of Pushkin State Museum’s expansion, dsa ENGINEERING was appointed to design the Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Fire Protection systems for the Museum’s new Library building.
The M&E design for the Library formed part of the overall sustainability strategy for the Museum’s restoration which also included a new Depository building, Music Gallery, retail and exhibition galleries with underground link. The design includes:
- A snow harvesting facility that contributes to the cooling of the buildings during the warmer months of the year. This sustainable design has a 4-year payback on investment
- A ground source heat rejection system that eliminates the need for outdoor plant requirement for the existing neoclassical buildings
- Utilisation of the external colonnades of the Music Gallery and Depository as fresh air paths that provide the ventilation air for both buildings while reducing significantly the internal building riser requirements.
